Escape to Paradise: Your Romantic Borneo Getaway Awaits!
Forget Insta-Perfection: My Messy, Glorious Escape to Paradise (Borneo Edition!)
Okay, real talk. I’m back from Escape to Paradise: Your Romantic Borneo Getaway Awaits! And honestly? My expectations were…well, Instagram-inflated. You know the drill: endless beaches, perfectly tousled hair, and… well, you get the idea. This isn't gonna be the glossy travel brochure version. This is my version, full of sweaty hikes, near-disastrous attempts at romance, and the genuine, messy joy of escaping the everyday. And yeah, maybe you should go.
First Impressions (and the Great Accessibility Puzzle):
First things first: Accessibility. This is HUGE for me now. Escape to Paradise? Totally not the name of the place, I'm just gonna call it Paradise, that's what they call it too. I'm happy to say, they're making a real effort. There's a dedicated section about Facilities for Disabled Guests and I saw an Elevator. Now for the good stuff! The journey getting there looked manageable with Airport Transfer, my back was starting to ache so I was glad with that, and the Car Park [free of charge] was nice to know.
Arrival and Settling In:
Getting there after an exhausting flight was a breeze, the Check-in/out [express] and Contactless check-in/out made things easy, no waiting in line at all. The welcome fruit basket and Free bottled water were great! The room itself? Let's just say my inner minimalist nearly had a meltdown. The Air conditioning was a godsend (humidity is a real enemy!), and the Blackout curtains? Genius. Sleep was a priority! The Free Wi-Fi was a relief, though the connection was sometimes… let’s say, "Borneo-esque." Hey, I'm not complaining, I had one small issue, which was fixed quickly.
But let's get personal…
I'm a big fan of having a Private bathroom that's for sure. I usually always need the ability to Wake-up service. Always.
On-site Adventures and My Near-Death Experience (Hiking Edition!)
There are Things to do at the hotel, but I'm talking about the area. The local Taxi service was useful but I made a mistake trying to "rough it" and hike a trail recommended by a local. I'll skip the gory details (blisters the size of golf balls, near-constant sweating, the existential dread of being lost in the jungle), but let's just say the views at the top were spectacular. Absolutely breathtaking. The hike, unfortunately, required a bit more fitness than I possessed. Definitely wear decent shoes if you're gonna do that.
My obsession with the Pool with a View
Okay, confession time: I'm obsessed with a good pool. The hotel's Swimming pool [outdoor] was a game changer. Poolside bar, and I swear, the water's temperature? Perfect. I spent a good portion of my time there, sipping something fruity, gazing at the jungle, and pretending I'd never even heard of a spreadsheet. The Swimming pool was a welcome relief after a long day, the view? Unforgettable.
Food, Glorious Food (and a Few Regrets):
The food. Oh, the food. Restaurants were available. Asian cuisine in restaurant was good, International cuisine in restaurant was… well, it's a hotel, right? Let's just say I ate more than I'd planned. The Breakfast [buffet] was my downfall. Buffet in restaurant, and I am not exaggerating when I say there was something for everyone. Coffee/tea in restaurant. Oh, the coffee. I had coffee with my Breakfast takeaway service, and with my Breakfast in room…The Asian breakfast especially was a highlight. The Western breakfast was comforting. The Desserts in restaurant were…dangerous. The Soup in restaurant and Salad in restaurant were often my savior. I really wanted to try the Vegetarian restaurant but I didn't get a chance. The Bottle of water was always a welcome addition.
I did have a go at the A la carte in restaurant, which was a good decision. Alternative meal arrangement was available. I had a fantastic time there.
The Spa, and My (Slightly Awkward) Body Wrap Story:
I've never been a "spa person," mostly because I'm awkward. But I figured, "When in Borneo…" So, I tried the Body wrap. The initial part, the Foot bath, was pure bliss. Then came the wrap itself. Picture this: me, wrapped in seaweed/mud/something earthy, feeling like a giant burrito. The lady left the room and for a moment I panicked - what if I couldn't get out? I was not ready to get stuck. Luckily I escaped but definitely requested a body scrub afterwards. The Massage was also brilliant, and the Sauna and Steamroom? Perfect for melting away tension. The Spa/sauna experience overall was fantastic. So, I'm in now.
Romance… or the Lack Thereof:
I went with my partner and we had the Couple's room. The hotel's setting is perfect for romance. Proposal spot is a real thing, but I did not get any hints about it. Room decorations were lovely, and I did see the Couple's room and I'm sure it would be wonderful if that's your kind of thing.
The Security, Hygiene, and the Rest: (Because Let’s Be Real, We Need to Talk About This)
Paradise is taking safety and hygiene seriously. I appreciated the Physical distancing of at least 1 meter and Staff trained in safety protocol. I saw Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer, Rooms sanitized between stays, Professional-grade sanitizing services everywhere. Also, the Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, and Individually-wrapped food options, were all good. There's a Doctor/nurse on call, of course there's a First aid kit. CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside property, Fire extinguisher, Smoke alarms, Security [24-hour]. The Hygiene certification was reassuring. I felt very safe there. It was a comfort to know they had a Safe dining setup.
The Little Things That Matter (And the Ones That Don't):
Okay, the hotel had a Gift/souvenir shop. The Convenience store was surprisingly well-stocked. The Laundry service was a lifesaver. There was an Ironing service. They offered Dry cleaning, and Cash withdrawal services. Also, I don't know why but I was glad to see they had a Shrine. The Car park [on-site] was free, which was a bonus. The Car power charging station was a great thing to see.
The Negatives (Because No Place is Perfect):
The Wi-Fi, as I mentioned, could be shaky at times. The air conditioning could occasionally get noisy. Also, some of the amenities, like the Gym/fitness center, weren't quite as polished as the rest of the hotel.
The Verdict: Should You Go?
Absolutely. Despite my rambles, the minor imperfections, and the near-disaster with the jungle trail, Escape to Paradise offered a genuinely unforgettable experience. It's a place to disconnect, recharge, and embrace the beauty of Borneo. It's not perfect, but that's what makes it real.

Escape to Paradise: Taiwan's Royal Kingdom Hotel Awaits!Alright, buckle up buttercups, because we're about to plunge headfirst into the sweaty, glorious heart of Borneo. And by "we," I mean me and my (hopefully) still-sane beloved. This is our romantic Forest.hom escape, and let's just say, preparing for this trip has been… an experience. Think less "smooth sailing" and more "leaky inflatable boat on a tempestuous sea, captained by a caffeine-addled squirrel." Here's the actual itinerary, though, bless its chaotic little heart.
Forest.hom: Our Borneo Blitz! (Or: How We Survived a Tropical Paradise – Maybe)
Day 1: Arrival & the "Oh God, It’s Hot" Realization
- Morning (Let's call it "Almost Afternoon"): Arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). The flight? Let's just say my attempt to sleep involved a toddler kicking my seat for three hours straight. Romantic, right? Grab the pre-booked transfer (thank heavens!) - an air-conditioned van is officially my best friend right now.
- Lunch (aka "The Hangry Phase"): Lunch at a local kedai kopi (coffee shop) en route to Forest.hom. First thoughts on the food? Everything is delicious and spicy at the same time, which is truly remarkable. My other half had some noodles with a fried egg on the side and it was so greasy it slipped off, so an even more romantic atmosphere has been set. We both are exhausted.
- Afternoon (The “Holy Cow, This Place Is Gorgeous” Phase): ARRIVAL at Forest.hom. Photos don't do it justice. The villa is stunning - a wooden masterpiece nestled amongst the lush greenery. A plunge pool beckons. I immediately want to dive in—but first, the luggage. My suitcase, naturally, is jammed. Of course, it's a disaster, and a little voice inside me says, "Just embrace the chaos."
- Evening (The "Mosquito Massacre" & Sunset Sundowners): Settling in. Unpacking (finally!). Mosquitoes. They are relentless. We covered ourselves in every insect repellent. We tried the citronella candles. We lost the battle. Then, finally, finally, we have our first proper sundowners at the pool, watching the sunset paint the sky. Absolutely breathtaking. Except for the persistent itch on my ankles. Worth it.
Day 2: Jungle Fever & the Questionable Gecko Encounter
- Morning (The 'We're in the Jungle, Baby' Phase): Guided nature walk. Okay, so my hiking boots are slightly too tight. And I may have tripped over a root. AND there was a leech attachment moment. BUT, the sheer abundance of life is incredible. Giant trees, exotic birds, and the air smells like… well, life. We saw a monkey! It threw a fruit at us! Truly a peak experience.
- Lunch (Where the Bugs REALLY Started to Matter): Picnic lunch amidst the trees. Bugs. Everywhere. My sandwich now has ants in it. We are laughing (nervously). My other half is already talking about just going to the nearest restaurant.
- Afternoon (The Gecko Incident): Spent most of the afternoon at the pool, trying to wash off the jungle feeling. Then, a gecko. Which was… really big. And it decided to, how to put this delicately… land on my head. Screaming ensued. My dignity? Lost somewhere amongst the ferns. My other half, bless him, found it hilarious. He's still laughing. The gecko, thankfully, eventually moved on.
- Evening (Dinner and the "Everything Hurts" Realization): Dinner at the villa. We decided to try cooking (yeah, we should have gone to the restaurant). Everything tasted amazing, and the company was absolutely fantastic, but my feet hurt. I have no idea what I did.
Day 3: Island Hopping & the Sea Sickness Struggle
- Morning (The 'Boat Trip of Doom' Phase): Boat trip to a nearby island. The water is gorgeous. The sun is blazing. But the boat… the boat is small. The waves? They're bigger. I made the mistake of eating a very large breakfast. Sea sickness. It hit me like a tidal wave. I spent most of the boat trip staring at the horizon, pretending I wasn't about to lose my lunch.
- Lunch (The "I Survived" Phase): Managed to (mostly) keep things together on the island. The snorkeling was great… when I could stop worrying about whether or not the ocean wanted my intestines. The beach was beautiful, but the memory of the boat is still etched into my brain.
- Afternoon (The "Sunburn Surprise") The sun is strong. Sunscreen is good, but apparently not good enough. We spent most of the afternoon finding shade.
- Evening (The "Quiet Night In - Finally!" Phase): Another dinner at the villa. The pool is calling our name, and we are both exhausted, but so happy.
Day 4: Relaxation & the "Why Do We Have to Leave" Blues
- Morning (The "Pinch Me, I'm Dreaming" Phase): Lie-in. Finally, pure, unadulterated sloth. Breakfast on the verandah - the fruit is bursting with flavour. The birds are singing. Life is good.
- Lunch (The "Do Nothing" Phase): Pool time. Reading. Napping. Basically, zero productivity. This is exactly what we needed.
- Afternoon (The "Spa Day! Yes!" Phase): Massages at the villa. Absolute bliss. I think I briefly ascended to another plane of existence. My other half snored gently beside me. Romantic, right?
- Evening (The "Goodbye, Paradise" Dinner): One last sunset. One last dinner at the villa. One last toast to this insane, wonderful, and incredibly sweaty trip. I'm already dreading leaving tomorrow. The thought of packing is making me feel sick again.
Day 5: Departure & the "Until Next Time, Borneo!" Farewell
- Morning (The "Packing, Praying, and Regretting" Phase): Packing. Saying goodbye to the incredible staff. Driving back to the airport. The journey to the airport is long and the memories are short.
- Afternoon (The "We'll Be Back!" Phase): Flight home. Reflection. Realization that despite the leeches, the geckos, and the sea sickness, this trip was, without a doubt, the best thing that's happened to me in ages.
Final Thoughts:
Borneo is wild. It's messy. It's beautiful. It's a constant assault on the senses. And for all the moments of chaos and imperfection? I wouldn’t trade this trip for the world. It’s a reminder that the best adventures are often the most wonderfully, gloriously imperfect. And that, my friends, is what makes them truly romantic.
Modi's Secret Indian Getaway: Luxury You Won't Believe!Escape to Paradise: Borneo Getaway - Your Questions Answered (Plus My Ramblings!)
Okay, Borneo... is it actually paradise? And is this whole "romantic getaway" thing legit?
Alright, let's be real. "Paradise" is a big word. And Borneo... well, it's *almost* paradise. Think stunning beaches, lush rainforests, those adorable orangutans... it's seriously gorgeous. The "romantic" part? That depends on you and your partner, I guess! My husband, bless his heart, is more of a "let's eat all the noodles" kind of romantic. But the sheer *wonder* of Borneo? Definitely romantic potential! We had a moment snorkeling where we both just stared at each other underwater, mouths agape, like, "Did you SEE that giant clam?!" So, yeah, it's legit. Just bring mosquito repellent. Seriously. The bloodsuckers in Borneo are next level.
What kind of activities are there? Like, do I have to be a super-adventurous person?
Nah, you don't need to be Bear Grylls. Sure, if you want to climb Mount Kinabalu (we didn't, my knees are practically antiques), go for it! But you can also do a whole heap of chill stuff. Think:
- Scuba diving/Snorkeling: Absolutely *stellar*. Seriously, the coral reefs are bursting with life. We saw a sea turtle the size of a small car! (Okay, maybe not *that* big. But it was big.)
- Jungle trekking: Prepare to sweat. And possibly encounter leeches. But totally worth it for the incredible scenery and, you know, the chance to see an orangutan swing through the trees. Which is way cooler than watching Netflix, trust me.
- Beach bumming: Duh. Golden sand, crystal-clear water... enough said. I spent a solid afternoon just staring at the ocean. It was glorious. And I *needed* it after the leech incident.
- Wildlife spotting: Monkeys, proboscis monkeys (those noses!), birds... keep your eyes peeled! It's like a real-life nature documentary. Just try not to squeal too loud when you see something amazing. (I failed.)
- Food, glorious food: Eat everything. Seriously. The street food is amazing. The restaurants are amazing. My poor waistline... but it was worth it.
Is it expensive? Planning a romantic getaway on a budget!
Okay, this is important. Borneo can be done on various budgets. Flights might be the biggest chunk, depending on where you're flying from. But once you're there, you can definitely live like a king (or queen!) on a decent budget. Accommodation ranges from budget-friendly hostels to luxury resorts. Eating out is generally pretty affordable, especially if you hit the local markets and street food stalls. Activities can vary in price too, but there are lots of options that won't break the bank. My best advice? Research, research, research! Explore different accommodation options, compare prices for activities, and be prepared to haggle a little (politely!) in the markets. Trust me, you can have an amazing romantic getaway without taking out a second mortgage. We did it! (Mostly... I may have splurged on one fancy dinner. Don't tell my husband.)
Tell me about the accommodations. Romantic, huh?
Right, let's talk romance. I envisioned candlelit dinners on the beach, a cozy bungalow with a view, maybe a mosquito net draped over a four-poster bed... You know, the works! And, well, we got some of that. We stayed in a variety of places: comfortable hotels, beach bungalows...and one place that was... shall we say, *rustic*? The mosquito net had holes, the shower was more of a dribble, and there were definitely some interesting noises coming from the jungle at night. (Probably monkeys. Probably.) But even the "rustic" places had their charm. Think of it as "character." Plus, that's where we saw *the* most incredible sunrise.
Our actual best find was a gorgeous little place with overwater bungalows. The kind with glass floors so you could watch the fish swim by. Pure bliss! Seriously, that was the peak romance moment. We even managed to get a table away from the screaming kids during dinner. It was like something out of a movie... until the waiter spilled soup on my dress. But hey, even with a little soup stain, that was amazing.
What's the food like? I'm a foodie!
Oh. My. Goodness. The food. Prepare for a culinary adventure! Think fresh seafood, flavorful curries, and tropical fruits galore. The satay is out of this world. And the noodles... are you sensing a pattern? I could live on noodles in Borneo. Seriously, they're amazing. Try the *laksa* – a spicy, coconut-milk-based noodle soup. It's a flavour explosion.
And don't skip the street food! The night markets are a feast for the senses. Just be cautious about the really *exotic* stuff. I tried something that looked suspiciously like a deep-fried... what? I still don't know. And I'm not sure I want to. Let's just say, it was an "experience." Stick to the satay and the noodles and you'll be golden!
What about the language barrier? Will I be lost?
English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. You will be absolutely fine getting around and communicating. You could learn a few basic Malay phrases – it's always appreciated and fun. "Terima kasih" (thank you) and "Sama-sama" (you're welcome) will go a long way. But honestly? Even if you don't speak a word of Malay, you'll be okay. People are friendly and helpful. We managed to navigate our way through the jungle and order food without any major disasters. My husband’s attempts at speaking Malay were, shall we say, a bit “enthusiastic”. The locals found it hilarious.
Is it safe? I'm a bit of a worrier...
Yes, Borneo is generally safe for tourists. Of course, use common sense, just like you would anywhere else. Be aware of your surroundings, don't flash expensive jewelry, and don't walk alone in poorly lit areas at night. Petty theft can happen, so keep your valuables safe. I, personally, was more worried about the wildlife! Giant insects, snakes, things that go bump in the night... but we survived. And the worst that happened (besides the leech incident) was getting yelled at by a monkeyNomadic Stays
